Physics
Understanding the mysteries of the Universe is what physics is all about.
Physics is an incredibly powerful science, capable of explaining a massive range of phenomena, from the Big Bang (where time and space began) to gravity, electricity, magnetism, radioactivity and the nature of light.
At Lathallan the physics curriculum is designed to challenge, to inspire, and to develop a deeper insight into the inner workings of reality.
In S1 and S2, our pupils build their skills of scientific enquiry, research and problem solving.
They do so through a range of topic areas including Waves, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity, Light, and Astrophysics.
Our aim is to encourage all S1 and S2 pupils to engage with physics and develop an insatiable curiosity to discover the rules and processes of the natural order.

As pupils progress onto Nat 5 we expand their knowledge base on all the topic areas learnt in S1 and S2 in helping them become skilled at growing big ideas from smaller seeds of understanding.
Among many other areas, we explore the electromagentic spectrum, Ohm's Law, Newton's three laws of motion, the Big Bang theory and Energy as we prepare pupils for their assignment and exam.
Higher Physics is divided into three content units and an additional research unit with an aim on helping to enhance awareness of the fundamentals of the subject.
Pupils are required to develop an advanced understanding of Electricity, Our Dynamic Universe, Particles and Waves.
For their research assignment, they are required to choose an appropriate physics issue and draw reasoned conclusions from their evidence.
