Modern Languages

At Lathallan, developing a flair and understanding for modern languages begins in our Nursery, with weekly French lessons delivered by a specialist Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher.

As children progress into the Junior School, these language skills are further developed using a range of fun and engaging teaching techniques designed to foster pupils enjoyment of language learning.

In the early Junior years, J1 to J4 pupils are given timetabled specialist French lessons where they learn about the language and culture through singing, reading and active play as can be seen from the videos below.

An imersion approach is taken within the French classroom to help pupils develop their language skills seamlessly.

As children progress through the Junior School, they are given the opportunity to learn both French and Spanish through specialist MFL lessons.

They learn a wide range of topic areas in French from basic personal introductions (C'est Parti) to family and friends (Famille et Copains), my home (Chez Moi) and my day (Ma Journée).

In Spanish, our J5 to J7s are given an introduction the language through weekly specialist lessons and an integration of the language into everyday classroom life.

In the early Junior years, pupils are given timetabled specialist French lessons where they learn through singing, reading and active play.
