Junior Science

Junior Science

At Lathallan, our Specialist Scientist conducts Junior Science lessons in a new purpose-built laboratory, packed with resources, equipment, a smart board and classroom tablets.

Science begins in J3, with pupils given lessons in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. They are given lessons twice-weekly in J3 but this progresses to five per week in J7.

Junior Science helps our younger pupils explore engaging experiments and develop essential lab skills across all three subjects with the opportunity to use the Bunsen burner, the Van de Graaff generator and to learn about organs by dissecting a pig's heart.

In Biology pupils learn across a wide range of topic areas including The Body, Food Chains, Life, Healthy Lifestyles And Diseases, Senses, Environment.

Space, Energy, Forces and Electricity are all key topic areas in Physics while in Chemistry the pupils learn about Rocks and Soils, Materials, Solids, Liquids and Gases and Chemical Reactions.

While our our new Science Centre is a hugely valuable resource, we also make use of Lathallan's expansive grounds for outdoor lessons on the subject.

Environmentally-conscious pupils can also join a weekly Eco Club to learn more about how to protect the planet as you can see from the video below.
