John Muir Award
Pupils at Lathallan School have the opportunity to complete their John Muir Discovery in J7, their Explorer in S2 and their Conserver in S5 & S6.
This is achieved through discovering, conserving and preserving a wild place and communicating about that wild place.
The school, with woods, beach and stream is uniquely place to facilitate achieving these awards.
John Muir, a native of East Coast Scotland, became a leader in early environmentalism in Northern America in the 1920s.
With global climate change an increasingly important reality in all our lives Lathallan School feel it’s important that children learn about the consequences of human impact and the value to humans all things wild.
As part of the school’s increasing environmental focus, the school is in partnership with Amy Barclay from Surfers Against Sewage in the plastic-free coastline initiative.
The School sees this as complimentary to a rounded and responsible education for 21st century life.
Please watch the videos below for examples of pupils completing their John Muir Discovery and our Senior pupils Conserver at Lathallan beach.
